Innsbruck is a town in western Austria (Tyrol's capital city), located at the foot of the Alps in the Inn Valley. The oldest written mention of the town dates back to 1187. Thanks to its favourable location near one of the most important Alpine passes, the Brenner, which separates the Zillertal Alps from Sztubai, it has been an important urban centre connecting the south of Europe with the north since its foundation. The city was twice the organizer of the Winter Olympics (in 1964 and 1976). Innsbruck also organized the Nordic World Ski Championships 1933 and was one of the cities organizing Euro 2008.
